Baby rescued from near-drowning in bathtub – Tongaat

The baby was found face down in a tub of water in the bathtub.

An 11-month-old baby is lucky to be alive after she nearly drowned in a bowl of water last Wednesday.

According to Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA), the call for help came in from the neighbour of the child’s family who had heard the family screaming for help at their Belvedere home in Tongaat.

After bathing her baby, the 17-year-old mother apparently took the baby out of the bowl and went to help other children in the house.

“Nearly five minutes later, the teen mum realised that the baby could not be found and when the grandmother checked the bathroom she found her face down in the bowl of water in the bath tub,” said RUSA spokesperson, Prem Balram.

The baby was treated by paramedics before being taken to hospital for further care.
