WATCH: Jubilation as hardware stores reopen

The opening of hardware stores under Level 4 of lcokdown was a huge relief to homeowners who have been short of materials for the past five weeks.

The opening of hardware stores under Level 4 lockdown provided many with an opportunity to get on with home repairs – and others to pursue more relaxing pastimes.

Having been stuck at home for more than a month and not being able to get items needed for odd jobs around the house and garden, people flocked to North Coast hardware stores over the weekend.

The opening of hardware stores under Level 4 of lcokdown was a huge relief to homeowners who have been short of materials for the past five weeks.

Shoppers at one Ballito hardware store said they were looking forward to working on DIY projects at home and other more urgent tasks like patching leaking roofs.

Ballito Mica sales manager Shaun Amiappen said they were surprised by the turnout and thankful for the support of the community.

However, it should have been no surprise that some shoppers used the opportunity to buy 20-litre drums which they said would be used to make pineapple beer in.
