Trinityhouse Palm Lakes to shut doors at year-end

CEO of the ADvTECH schools division, Mike Aitken said the decision to close was not taken lightly, but that it was no longer sustainable to keep the school open.

The Trinityhouse pre-primary and preparatory schools in Palm Lakes are closing permanently at the end of this year, following the high school which closed in 2018.

CEO of the ADvTECH schools division, Mike Aitken said the decision to close was not taken lightly, but that it was no longer sustainable to keep the school open.

“The school has struggled with enrolment since its opening, primarily driven by the lower than anticipated rate of development in the Palm Lakes Estate and surrounding areas,” he said.

The 90 students will have to look for new schooling at the end of this year.

“We have no current plans for another Trinityhouse in KZN and will be focusing on our other offerings including Crawford schools,” he said.

19 staff members will also be affected by the closure, and the company is committed to assisting them in finding new employment within the other ADvTECH schools countrywide, wherever possible, said Aitken.

Royal Palm Property Holdings (RPPH) COO, Olivia Roels Sak said she believes there was still a need for a school in the area.

“RPPH believes that another group will be interested to take over the school, as the location and the topology of the land is perfect. In Palm Lakes Family Estate alone we have over 650 children who need good education.”

“ADvTECH and RPPH are working on different solutions at the moment and in the difficult times we are experiencing, we choose to support each other without pointing fingers,” she concluded.
