Mount Moreland’s annual fundraising potjie competition was a hit once again, despite being postponed by a week.
Despite originally receiving just short of 20 entries, the date change due to rain left just five teams to battle it out last Saturday, with even a vegetarian pot being thrown into the mix.
Asked what the Voortrekkers might have thought of a vegetarian potjie, team ‘Keep it Green’ captain, Wendy O’Grady said they ought to be proud.
Although first place was not graced by the likes of kidney beans and spinach, the team did bring their A-game and spirit to boot.
Claiming the title of head potjie cook in first place was team ‘The Boar Holes’. An all lady team, led by Esther Bishop, won first place with their wild boar served with Chinese buns and slaw.
Event organiser Julie-Ann Reid said their potjie ‘was the bomb’.
First prize won them an array of hampers, meal voucher, headphones and even beer to celebrate with.
