Worldwide, one man is diagnosed every hour with testicular cancer, but the good news is that with early detection, there is a 95% recovery rate.
Q: I can feel a lump on my testicle. I’m still in my twenties, so do I need to be worried about testicular cancer?
Dr Warren Deeves of Health Matters answers:
Testicular cancer can affect men of all ages and it’s the second most common cancer in young men, affecting mostly those aged 18-35.
Worldwide, one man is diagnosed every hour with testicular cancer, but the good news is that with early detection, there is a 95% recovery rate.
Risk factors include a family history of testicular cancer, undescended testes, being Caucasian and a sedentary lifestyle.
The most common sign is a lump on the testicle, therefore, self-examination is key (which should not be a problem considering recent studies show most men touch their testicles 7 times a day!).
