Petrol heads show off with rebuilt-from-scratch rides at JDM Live

From Bentleys on air-suspension to a line-up of SLS Auto and Local Japs car clubs' cars, such as the 1968 W111 Mercedes Benz 230 E and AP2 Honda S2000, the show certainly pulled out all the stops.

Face masks and cars rebuilt from scratch were in good supply at Casuarina Beach on Saturday where JDM Live’s second annual free event drew a large crowd.

From stunningly rebuilt cars to even a few stock standard super cars joining the line-up, enthusiasts were left gawking at some of the finest custom cars the North Coast has to offer.

Organisers even managed to draw in some Metro officials who, although were clearly there to monitor Covid-19 compliance, looked to have enjoyed the display of vehicles themselves.

Now in its second year, the line-up of cars grew substantially from the 2019 event.

Cars on display included a custom 1968 W111 Mercedes Benz 230 E, a completely stock-free GC8 Subaru Impreza STi and believe it or not, a 1.3 Toyota Tazz equipped with an air-compressed gas tank that fills airbags around all four of the car’s shocks, allowing the car to be raised or lowered in height.

It certainly does look like it could be a tactical warhead of some kind, but the trained eye will tell you that it is an air-compressed gas tank which fills airbags around all four of this Toyota Tazz’s shocks.

The tank immediately drew the attention of the crowd, with non-the-wiser spectators wondering whether it was a bomb.

Although not customised or rebuilt-from-scratch, this 2019 V10 FSI Audi R8 certainly still drew the eyes of the crowd at JDM Live.

History made timeless, this custom 1968 W111 Mercedes Benz 230 E was a sure crowd pleaser.

Organiser Cassidy Ramen thanked the community and sponsors for the support.

“The event was an absolute blast. People are still talking about it and it has made headlines in the car community.”
