Ballito businessman Sagie Govender dies after short battle with Covid-19

Well-known Ballito businessman and former KwaDukuza Rotary club president Sagie Govender died on Monday after a short battle with coronavirus.

The owner of Tyre Track Ballito was admitted to Netcare Alberlito hospital on December 21.

Sagie, a 7-time Comrades runner, died aged 58 and is survived by his wife Daisy and two daughters.

Heartbroken, Daisy recounted how her husband loved to give to charity, largely through his work.

Originally from Tinley Manor, Sagie was very involved in the community.

He helped start the KwaDukuza Rotary Club in 2001 and was president that year.

Zimbali Rotary Club President, Kosh Thaver said that a more humble person would be difficult to meet.

“He uplifted the lives of the less fortunate and was a completely down-to-earth person. Sagie later joined at Zimbali Rotary Club where he continued to make a large difference in the lives of those who needed it most,” said Kosh.

While at Rotary, Sagie was awarded the Paul Harris Fellow title – a title reserved for those who contribute greatly to the upliftment of the less fortunate. 

Reiterating his incredible zest for adventure and kind-hearted nature, Daisy said they had done everything together.

During their marriage they travelled widely, climbing Mt Kilimanjaro together and even hiked to base camp at Mt Everest in 2019.
