Eskom downgrades loadshedding from level 2 to 1

Most of the North Coast will no longer be subject to loadshedding this evening, just as a cool breeze washes over the coast breaking the heat.

On Sunday the state-owned enterprise said loadshedding stage 1 would take effect at 11pm, and continue until 5am the next morning.

Eskom will then return the country to level 2 loadshedding.

‘Regrettably, as the return to service of some generation units has been delayed, as well as the need to manage emergency generation reserves and identified risks to the power system, stage 2 loadshedding will resume in the morning.”

Restarting units at Kusile power station has proven troublesome, seeing the matter delayed.

Several units were returned to service at the Kriel, Grootvlei and Duvha power stations.

Eskom said Covid-19 had impacted operations, and in one such case, shared that Medupi power station reported 48 positive cases out of a pool of 75 contractors.

Currently, 6 384MW remains out on planned maintenance.

Another 13 181MW of capacity is unavailable owing to breakdowns.

Ballito Southern Grid: Not affected.

KwaDukuza Northern Grid: Not affected.

Mandini: 11pm to 00.30am.

Tongaat Central: Not affected.

Tongaat Beach: Not affected.

Monday’s Times, Loadshedding Stage 2:

Ballito Southern Grid: 8pm to 10.30pm.

KwaDukuza Northern Grid: Midday to 2.30pm and again from 8pm to 10.30pm.

Mandini: 10pm to 00.30am.

Tongaat Central: 5am to 6am and again from midday to 2pm.

Tongaat Beach: 5am to 6am and again from midday to 2pm.
