Obituary: Saying farewell to much loved Patsy

Patsy, a much loved and popular local preacher in the Methodist Church, died last week at the age of 87, following a stroke. 

She has preached throughout the provinces and I am sure all of us have memories of her passionate and personal sermons that were always so practical and meaningful.

She was the pastoral carer at the Umhlali church for many years before taking over the preaching and pastoral care of Westbrook and Tongaat Methodist churches.

Patsy sang in the church choir and organised the Sunday School nativity plays for a number of years.

She was a key member of the Women’s Auxiliary and part of the interdenominational sewing group that met at the church in Umhlali.

Patsy played the piano and led many bible studies over the years.

She was involved in the Minus One group for mostly bereaved ladies but included anyone who was alone.

She then started her Patsy’s Girls group for the elderly and lonely folk in the area.

They would meet monthly at the church where she would treat them to a delicious tea and morning of fellowship.

Patsy was sought after as a guest speaker at functions and schools.

Patsy was a true icon in the area and her distinctive laugh will be truly missed by the congregation and all the lives she touched so deeply.
