Health department brings free Covid-19 rapid tests to KwaDukuza
Covid-19 rapid antigen tests are less reliable than the laboratory the tests, but they do identify the majority of the most infectious cases, and have the advantage of being fast.
The health department will be offering free Covid-19 rapid tests to the public in KwaDukuza this week.
This forms part of provincial government’s plans to address the second wave of Covid-19 infections.
Covid-19 rapid antigen tests are less reliable than the laboratory the tests, but they do identify the majority of the most infectious cases, and have the advantage of being fast.
Results are expected within 15 minutes.
The rapid antigen tests, approved by The World Health Organisation, perform best when a person is tested in the early stages of infection when viral load is generally highest.
Individuals will be encouraged to first get a rapid test, and consider a PCR test if results are negative but the person is symptomatic.
No booking is required and anyone can take the test.

• Wednesday, January 27: Shakaskraal Hall, 9am to 2pm
• Thursday, January 28: Ballito clinic, 9am to 2pm
• Friday, January 29: Ntshawini Nevas Hall, 9am to 2pm
