Inspired by the community's actions, Ballito Junction Pick 'n Pay store owner Michael Lafferty is offering grocery vouchers for the best efforts.
A community initiative started with the aim of cleaning up Ballito is fast growing into something much larger, with a cash incentive on offer.
On January 17, Ballito local Mark Whitehead and his gardener, Jackson Ngxqwe, cleaned up Lorna Avenue after efforts by Whitehead to persuade the municipality to maintain verges were ignored.
Whitehead shared his efforts onto a local social media group, challenging residents to do the same with their own streets. Another resident, Deon Pretorius, took on Leonora Drive and more people are taking up the idea daily.
Inspired by the community’s actions, Ballito Junction Pick ‘n Pay store owner Michael Lafferty has come forward with an incentive in the hope of getting the entire town on board.
“It’s simple, all you have to do is send in your photos of you and your cleaned-up street and you may just win yourself a R500 shopping voucher at Pick ‘n Pay at Ballito Junction,” said Lafferty.
Two vouchers will be up for grabs every month.

Judging will take place monthly and winners will be announced in the Courier.
