KwaDukuza municipality closes North Coast beaches due to storm warning
The South African Weather Service has earlier indicated however that the storm is not comparable to tropical cyclone Eloise, but that people should still brace for heavy downpours.
Many of the North Coast’s beaches will be closed from Saturday morning owing to the arrival of heavy rains which are set to lash the coast and parts of the country.

“Disruptive rainfall is expected over the weekend and into early next week,” the weather service reported.
KwaDukuza lifeguard supervisor, Bongani Xulu said the municipality opted to close beaches as a preventative measure to prevent the loss of equipment and prevent any damage.
The KZN Sharks Board have removed most shark nets and drums lines.
“Not only do we aim to protect our equipment, but by closing beaches we will be able to mitigate any possible damage allowing for beach activities to resume more swiftly,” he said.
Bathing will remain closed until further notice at the following beaches:
- Zinkwazi
- Blythedale
- Willard beach
- Clark Bay
Bathing will remain open at Salt Rock main beach as well as Thompsons Bay.
The weather service has warned against heavy rains and flash flooding.
Winds are also expected to pick up on Sunday, with the added risk of trees or large branches being toppled by strong, gusty winds.
The rainfall is expected to subside to start easing off toward the end of next week.
