iLembe Covid-19 case numbers continue to fall
As of February 15, iLembe district has 22 220 recorded cases of which 20 935 have recovered.
iLembe district has started to see a decline in coronavirus cases, according to the KwaZulu-Natal health department.
On Tuesday there were just 3 new reported cases and 6 deaths in the district in the past 24 hours, the lowest daily increase since November last year.
As of February 15, iLembe district has 22 220 recorded cases of which 20 935 have recovered.
The total number of deaths stands at 501 since the outbreak of coronavirus 11 months ago.
The department said the number of hospital admissions continues to decline.
The figures come after health minister Zweli Mkhize last week announced the temporary ban of the AstraZeneca vaccine after a new study revealed that it was less effective against the new variant of the coronavius known as 501Y.V2.
“We shall wait for guidance from our scientists on how to use the AstraZeneca vaccine,” Mkhize told a news conference.
The 501Y.V2 variant is believed to have spread to 9 other African countries, according to a World Health Organisation (WHO) epidemiological report.
Figures from the WHO placed South Africa as the 16th most affected country in the world, with the highest number of infections and deaths on the continent.
