Taxi commuter allegedly raped at gunpoint on route to KwaDukuza

A 25-year-old woman boarded a taxi in Umgeni and was left in a field near Blackburn after being raped by two men.

A 25-year-old woman was allegedly raped by two men after getting into a taxi in Durban yesterday afternoon.

The woman operates a stall on Umgeni Road in central Durban, but planned to visit her boyfriend in KwaDukuza.

She boarded a Toyota Hiace taxi with two men – the driver and conductor – who assured her that they were traveling in the same direction.

When she asked why there were no other passengers in the taxi, the conductor placed a cloth over her face and told her to stay quiet.

They drove to a cane field where the men took turns raping her at gunpoint.

The woman said she thought about declaring her HIV positive status as a deterrent but decided against it as she thought they would kill her upon hearing the news.

The men left her in the field in the Blackburn area near Sibaya Casino.

She made her way to the emergency lane of the N2 freeway where she flagged down a passing motorist.

The motorist called Reaction Unit SA (RUSA) who took the woman to Verulam Saps.
