Elderly man shot in armed robbery in Tongaat
The man sustained a single gunshot wound to his left thigh and was treated for his injury on the scene.
A 67-year-old man was shot and injured during an armed robbery at an ATM in Tongaat on Monday.
Reaction Unit spokesperson Prem Balram said it was alleged that 3 men dressed in blue overalls were seen approaching a man who was about to enter the bank.
“After they failed to catch up to him they turned to customers waiting in line to use the ATM.
“One of them asked the victim to hand over his valuables when a shot went off.
“Some witnesses reported that a blue VW Polo sped off from the scene while other reports indicated that the getaway vehicle was a blue Hyundai,” said Balram.
The man sustained a single gunshot wound to his left thigh and was treated for his injury on the scene, then transported to the hospital in a stable condition.
The men are still at large and Tongaat police spokesperson captain Patrick Ngwane said the men got away with only a bag and personal documents.
