WATCH: Senior citizens have no choice but to register if they want Covid-19 jab
Currently South Africa has enough doses to vaccinate 42 million people and vaccine deliveries are underway to 87 approved vaccination sites across the public and private sector, with the number expected to expand to 3 000 sites at the peak of roll-out during July and August.
If you are 60 and over you can register online for the Covid-19 vaccination.
The Electronic Vaccination Data System (EVDS) is now available to the general public aged 60 and over.
Phase 1 of the Covid-19 Vaccination Campaign was concluded on May 15 with the vaccination of nearly 480 000 healthcare workers. Mass roll-out of phase 2 started on Monday, May 17 and roughly 700 000 healthcare workers still need to be vaccinated.
This will be done during phase 2.
Private healthcare users will need to share their medical aid details.
You will need to provide identification documents, medical aid cards, your cellphone number and residential address.
Registration for vaccination also does not mean that you will be vaccinated immediately.
Health minister Dr Zweli Mkhize said the department would contact those registered when it was time for them to be vaccinated.
But how does one register?
There are 4 ways to register:
1. Visit the website vaccine.enroll.health.gov.za and follow the steps.
Once completed, you will receive an SMS confirming registration.
A second SMS will be sent with a date and the location of the nearest vaccination centre to your home (in some cases, you may be directed to your place of work).
Those living in old age homes will not receive an SMS – instead, the vaccine will be brought to you.
Upon successful vaccination a proof of vaccination card will be provided to you.

2. Use the WhatsApp line 0600 123456.
3. Via SMS by dialing *134*832#.
4. Call the Covid-19 hotline 0800 029 999.
Outreach teams will be sent to help citizens who do not have access to digital technology.
The homeless, elderly and those who live in rural areas will also be assisted by government.
“We will ensure that these teams are easy to identify,” said Dr Mkhize.
To date, over 1.227 million senior citizens and over 914 000 healthcare workers have signed up on EVDS.
