SA Weather warns against disruptive rain and damaging winds
The weather service also warned against the possible flooding of major roads which would lead to major traffic disruptions, along with difficult driving conditions.
The country’s weather monitoring station has issued both warning levels 2 and 5 for parts of the North Coast, warning against disruptive rain which started around 1am this morning.
According to the South African Weather Service, disruptive rain on a warning level 2 has been issued for KwaDukuza.
The weather bureau warned that the high volume of rain could lead to localised flooding.
Further south around areas such as Tongaat and King Shaka International Airport, the bureau warned of disruptive rain with a warning level of up to 5.
“Flooding of formal and informal settlements, as well as low lying areas and bridges which would result in danger to life, damage of infrastructure and property, as well as the loss of livelihood and livestock, is warned of,” the weather service said.
The weather service also warned against the possible flooding of major roads which would lead to traffic disruptions, along with difficult driving conditions.
Rain however was not the only concern, with with a level 2 warning issued for damaging off-shore winds which are set to lash the coast until around 11pm this evening.
“Small vessels may be at risk of taking on water and capsizing in a locality,” said the weather service, also warning of possible damage to coastal infrastructure.
