There appears to be no end in sight to the recurring water interruptions faced by KwaDukuza residents who experienced another wave of water outages for the whole of last week.

Troubles with the iLembe District Municipal water supply began last Wednesday and continued for 6 days.

According to a statement by iLembe district mayor, Siduduzo Gumede the water interruptions were due to power trips caused by load shedding.

He said the service had gone back to normal in all areas except for Warrenton that was being serviced by water tankers.

However, in a public notice last Friday, iLembe said low pressure was expected to cause interruptions in Stanger Manor, Glenhills, Townview, Windy Heights, Doctorskop, Stanger Heights, High Ridge, Oceanview, Indian Village, Sunny Park, Mbozamo and Doesburg.

But despite reassurance that generators had been commissioned at the Kearsney and Umvoti balancing pump stations, by the afternoon water had shut off completely in some areas and was only restored on Monday this week.

According to ward councillor Madhun Sing, on Sunday residents of Stanger Manor, High Ridge and parts of Warrenton were still without water.

Water tankers were only deployed on Saturday and Sunday.

“The issue was escalated to all relevant departments including the office of the premier.

“Last Sunday after 1pm water supply in some areas were restored while other areas only had their water restored after 7pm.

“We had hoped the situation would normalise but on Monday the water supply to Stanger Manor was once again interrupted.”

Sing said he was disappointed with iLembe for failing to provide basic services and not fixing the water crisis.

On Monday iLembe said water levels in Kearsney, Stanger Manor, Shakaville and Warrenton were low due to a suspected cable fault at the Umvoti balancing reservoir.

Water in all the areas was finally restored on Monday evening.
