Salt Rock Neighbourhood Watch brings solar light to sub-stations
At a handover on Friday morning, Salt Rock ward councillor, Privi Makhan, SRNW deputy chair Hans Broerse and KwaDukuza electricity department staff, Vasie Naidoo and Roderick Lue explained that the local sub-stations are often dangerous when the lights go out.
Salt Rock Neighbourhood Watch (SRNW) has donated 10 solar-powered lights to KwaDukuza municipality.
At a handover on Friday morning, Salt Rock ward councillor, Privi Makhan, SRNW deputy chair Hans Broerse and KwaDukuza electricity department staff, Vasie Naidoo and Roderick Lue explained that the local sub-stations are often dangerous when the lights go out.
“We need to increase security at these sites,” said Lue, who said that when technicians went to examine the sites when the power was down they often faced difficult work environments, especially when it rained.

He said the addition of these solar-powered lights at both Shaka’s Rock and Sheffield sub-stations would make a huge difference.
The lights were bought at R1 500 each using funds raised by Salt Rock residents during the unrest in July.
The SRNW has equipped Salt Rock with more than 60 solar-powered lights to improve security throughout the area.
“We are thankful to everyone who made this donation possible,” said Lue.
