Search continues for boy (6) washed out to sea near Zimbali
The child was reportedly swept out to sea while swimming with his mother yesterday afternoon.
A 6-year-old child is still missing at sea after being swept out while swimming yesterday afternoon.
The boy was reportedly wading in the ocean with his mother at an unprotected beach just north of the Tongaat River mouth when the pair lost their footing and got into trouble, said KwaDukuza lifeguard superintendent, Bongani Xulu.
“The family are from Pretoria so we think they would not have had the local knowledge of how dangerous our beaches can be.
“The shorebreak was almost 3 foot yesterday and unfortunately one of the waves hit them and they were swept out.
“It is a particularly steep drop off at that beach,” he said.
Despite efforts from Saps search and rescue, IPSS search and rescue, Metro police rescue and NSRI, the child has still not been found.

Aircraft, drones, watercraft and foot patrols have all been deployed over the past 20 hours to search for the child who is now presumed to have drowned, said IPSS Medical Rescue spokesperson, Paul Herbst.
Searches will continue throughout the day.
