Duiker rescued from sewer pit in Tongaat
The duiker was released in a nearby cane field.
A duiker was recused from an open sewer pit at a vacant house on Tuesday morning.
A neighbour to the property on Krishnapuri Road in Sandfields, Tongaat, spotted the distressed antelope while walking through the property, said Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) spokesperson Prem Balram.
The pit was about 1,5 meters deep and partially filled with human excrement.
The Umhlali Saps K9 Search and Rescue Unit arrived on the scene shortly thereafter.
A rescue technician entered the pit and freed the trapped animal which was released in a nearby cane field,” said Prem.
He said the duiker was not injured.
