Help Robin Hood feed the poor Matthew Willman online photography auction
Five charitable organisations will benefit from the auction including, The Robin Hood Foundation, The Orion Organisation, Thandanani Children's Foundation, Hillcrest Aids Centre Trust and Zululand Conservation Trust.
Kloof-based artist and photographer Matthew Willman has dedicated 50% of the sale of 5 of his striking artworks in an online auction towards righting the wrongs done across KZN during the recent unrest.
Five charitable organisations will benefit from the auction including, The Robin Hood Foundation, The Orion Organisation, Thandanani Children’s Foundation, Hillcrest Aids Centre Trust and Zululand Conservation Trust.
While being based in Westville, The Robin Hood Foundation assists North Coast charities, including Tongaat-based halfway house for recovering alcoholics and drug addicts, Haven of Rest and Generation of Radicals.
More than 50 tonnes of food has been distributed by the Foundation since the unrest last month and it aims to keep doing so every month until the end of the year.
The Foundation was started by Durban businesswoman, Cindy Norcott in 2005.
It was while distributing secondhand clothing at St Mary’s Hospital that her heart broke on hearing the many horror stories of new mothers leaving their newborn babies wrapped in newspapers, giving her the motivation to intensify operations.
“Since the looting and rioting started, our foundation jumped into action with food relief. We aim to keep distributing 50 tonnes each month, until the end of the year,” said Norcott. We have also introduced sustainable farming and permaculture farming into a variety of disadvantaged communities, which I am very excited about.”
Matthew Willman is an internationally celebrated artist.

He is probably most well known for his work documenting the life of Nelson Mandela for the Nelson Mandela Foundation.
He has been commissioned to photograph US Presidents Barack Obama and President Bill Clinton, 6 South African Presidents, Former UN Secretary General Kofi Annan, Archbishop Desmond Tutu, and Annie Lennox among many others.
