Flooding, mudslides and collapsed roads as heavy rains again ravage North Coast

More than 250mm of rain has fallen in Ballito since this morning as both the North and South Coast are again being ravaged by heavy rains and flooding.

Just last month between April 11 and 13 severe rainfall destroyed multiple homes, roads and infrastructure, and left communities displaced.

Water and sanitation damages alone reached R1-billion.

As the rains again pour down, with the South African Weather Bureau having issued its highest Level 10 warning, roadways have been affected again.

In some areas mudslides have already occurred, with roads also reported to have collapsed between Umdloti and Tongaat.

The weather bureau has warned the level 10 warning will run into Sunday.

Motorists have been advised to avoid travelling and seek shelter.

Meanwhile, these are some of the roadways which have been affected so far:

M4 between Desainagar and Westbrook reported to have collapsed.

Genazzano Road into Seatides has collapsed, cutting off the area.

N2 has flooded sections in many parts, both north and south.

Colwyn and Sheffield Drive at Sheffield Beach have been flooded and covered in mud.

Mudslide on N2 at Sibaya.

George Hulett Drive at Salt Rock has been flooded.

Avoid the bridge area coming into Tongaat owing to flooding.

Umdloti has seen mudslides at North Beach Road, with a road reportedly collapsed coming into Umdloti.
