Major R130 000 building boost for 11 North Coast NPOs

The donation from Sika South Africa will be used by NPOs to repair their respective facilities.

Eleven North Coast non-profits have received building materials worth almost R130 000 through The North Coast Courier Orphan Fund.

The donation from Sika South Africa, facilitated through the Domino Foundation, was delivered to Ithemba Labasha crèche in Shaka’s Head on Monday.

The materials, valued at R128 970, included 240 25kg bags of cementitious grout and 150 cans of Sika Raintite waterproofing paint, which were distributed among 11 organisations supported by the Orphan Fund.

The grout can be used for repairs, foundations, paved pathways and driveways, making it particularly useful for organisations needing to improve their facilities.

Orphan Fund co-ordinator Charmaine Premlal said the donation would help beneficiaries tackle much-needed maintenance and improvement projects.

“When this opportunity came, I had to take it. We have to take every opportunity to advance our NGOs,” said Premlal.

Isinakekelo Foundation founder Wendy Monyango said the materials would help address flooding at its premises, where poor drainage leaves stagnant water and mud after heavy rain.

“This grout will help us pave the yard so that when it rains, the water can flow out and the mud is reduced, she said.

Siyakhula Crèche co-ordinator Sinenhlanhla Mthembu was equally pleased, saying the organisation would use the grout to repair cracks and assist with its current building project.

Premlal thanked Sika South Africa and the Domino Foundation for the donation, as well as Pedros Tongaat for providing meals for volunteers and NPO staff, IPSS for essential services, Impact Corp for providing a forklift and Quincy Masiapato of Merldock Marketing for videography.

The donated materials will now be put to use improving facilities that serve children and communities across the North Coast.
