Work underway to restore water supply between Zimbali and Tinley Manor [Watch]

The Avondale reservoir will start supplying rationed water from this afternoon.

Siza Water reports that Umgeni’s pump station which supplies the Avondale reservoir has been flooded, but repairs are currently underway.

Operations manager Kobus Fourie said they expected the repairs to be completed either by tomorrow (Tuesday), or Wednesday.

“There may be additional challenges once they start pumping, forcing us to ration water in the interim as a precaution. Currently all the reservoirs are closed, and will be opened at 4am each morning until 9am,” he said, noting this would apply to the coastal strip between Zimbali and Tinley Manor.

The Avondale reservoir could not be opened owing to low water levels.

The reservoir currently holds 40% of its capacity, which amounts to some 7 million litres, but demand is around 10-12 million litres per day.

“The Avondale reservoir will open at around 4pm this afternoon. It feeds Salt Rock, Umhlali Country Club, the Ballito Business Park and parts of Ballito.”

Water tankers have been dispatched to Tiffany’s, Ballito Library and the Salt Rock Library. The filling point at the Siza Water treatment plant are also still operating.
