Meet the new team driving the Orphan Fund!
The North Coast Courier Orphan Fund was established in 2003 with the purpose of channelling money raised to NGOs that specialise in caring for orphans and vulnerable children.
The North Coast Courier Orphan Fund recently bade farewell to popular coordinator Mpume Vilakazi who has relocated, opening the door for a new powerhouse team of Sindiswa Vilakazi (no relation) and Charmaine Premlal.
Hailing from Stanger and Durban respectively, the duo are passionate about community work and say they look forward to continuing to grow the Orphan Fund.
Sindiswa said she loves giving.
“I love making a difference and enjoy meeting new people while being involved in life-changing initiatives. As a child of God, I love finding ways to spread the love of God, and I believe in contributing to my community.”
Charmaine said the principles of ubuntu were instilled in her at a young age owing to the influence of her parents.
“What inspired me was how our family has always been involved in community development, especially in the promotion of sport among the youth and the rights of the underprivileged.”
These beliefs have also filtered down to Sindiswa and Charmaine’s children.
Sindiswa’s daughter in particular is the current Miss Ballito, Cikizwa Vilakazi, an active community champion.
Both women said they look forward to developing opportunities for people to receive skills development which lead to employment and job creation in a sustainable way, while also keeping the ship on course.
“I would like to bring more players on board by exposing the fund more, so we are able to generate more funds. The more people, businesses and community groups we have partnering with us, the more beneficiaries we are able to help,” said Sindiswa.
Speaking on the importance of the Orphan Fund, Charmaine said the main priority remained the care of orphans and the vulnerable.
