The future is female, when communities band together

Nation Builders Development continues to promote better futures for young women, while also addressing period poverty.

The organisation, founded by iLembe municipality councillor Michelle Sewraj, is run primarily by women and seeks to give back to young girls and women in communities across the North Coast.

“Young women must continue to pursue their dreams and education is the key to many opportunities available to them. I encourage young women to take advantage of bursary opportunities from businesses as well as funding available from the NSFAS to study and become professionals in their fields of choice. Circumstances and challenges must not become a barrier to their education,” said Nation Builders Development’s Desiree Gengan.

With trial and final examinations upcoming, she further emphasised the importance of a few months of hard work to set up a lifetime of opportunities.

After the session, each of the matric girls received sanitary pads to ensure there is no reason for them to miss the upcoming months of school.

As part of their Women’s Month programme, Nation Builders are also currently running its ‘Nation Builder of the Year’ competition.

If you know of local women who excel in the fields of government, education, health care, business or community development, then you can nominate them for the award.

One woman will be honoured in each category, with nominations closing on August 20.
