Hands That Serve women’s tea celebrates those who overcame abuse
"Since it is Women's Month, we thought we should celebrate these ladies and let them have some "Me time" - event organiser, Jeanine Ramsingh.
More than 20 ladies, some of whom were victims of abuse, were encouraged to look beyond their circumstances.
This was the message by talk show host and former radio personality, CJ Benjamin, who was the keynote speaker at an event hosted by non-profit organisation Hands That Serve at Lupa in Ballito on Saturday.
Benjamin said she was raised by her mother, who was abused by her husband, who was a drug addict.
“I was raised by a woman who would arrive at my school functions and meetings with blue eyes. I am who I am today because of my mother, who was written off by the community.
But she never stopped being the source of inspiration for me,” said Benjamin.
Event organiser Jeanine Ramsingh said she planned to make the occasion an annual event.
“Since it is Women’s Month, we thought we should celebrate these ladies and let them have some “Me time”.
