Boxer donation brings food relief to orphans

More than 200kg of chicken were collected and distributed among five early childhood development community centres.

The Boxer Meat Factory has entered into a partnership agreement with The North Coast Courier Orphan Fund to assist orphans and the less privileged with food hampers.

Boxer will donate excess chicken stock to the fund for distribution to community centres, with the first donation being received on August 15.

Since 2003, The North Coast Courier Orphan Fund has dedicated itself to distributing funds to non-profits within the newspaper’s circulation area.

Among the recipients was the Nkobongo Community Centre which offers an afternoon learning programme for children. Learners receive a cooked meal while attending classes, for some the only meal of the day.

Mama Rose of Safe Haven for Children and Elders was overjoyed at receiving 12 packets of 2kg chicken. The Safe Haven team prepare meals for more than 100 underprivileged community members daily.

Orphan Fund co-ordinator Charmaine Premlal says they hope to obtain a chest freezer donation as they are not always able to guarantee same-day delivery.
