Mandeni construction company joins initiative to tackle youth unemployment
Nineteen SMEs have been chosen to benefit from the project through training and employing graduates with artisan skills.
The National Business Initiative (NBI) has established an installation, repairs and maintenance (IRM) hub in the Mandeni municipality to help alleviate unemployment.
The project is supported by the Vuthela iLembe LED support programme.
Communities in KZN, Gauteng, Eastern Cape and Western Cape have been targeted, with the first two hubs established in iLembe and Ekurhuleni in Gauteng.
Mandeni’s Ricinz Construction is one of the 19 SMEs chosen to benefit from this initiative.
They will work in collaboration with the Mandeni campus of Umfolozi TVET College to address youth unemployment by training and employing graduates with artisan skills.
The SME is required to use the support it has received to grow its business and the local economy.
“It is all about changing people’s lives and job creation, so if I can create a job for one person, it will be satisfying for me,” said Ricinz Construction founder Indrani Govender.
Her company has received many awards for employing women and youth in rural areas.
IRM projects business advisor, Sipho Nkosi, said the lack of financial management practices in SMEs has proven to be a challenge when dealing with rapid growth and large contracts.
A reputable accounting company was appointed to set up systems that will help Ricinz Construction manage their finances.
