Marine Walk Shopping Centre opens doors in Umdloti

Given their smaller size, all of the stores are easily accessible and one could walk from one extreme end to the other in minutes.

The highly anticipated Marine Walk Shopping Centre opened to much excitement last week.

Developed by the Devmco Group as part of the Salta Sibaya precinct, the centre is ideally placed at the entrance to Umdloti, servicing a wide range of nearby communities.

The media got a sneak peek into the facility last Thursday before Marine Walk was officially launched to the public on Friday morning.

“Retail is shifting, and customers are embracing the move to smaller, more intimate shopping zones. “They no longer need to travel to the larger ‘city centre’ malls to get their shopping done.

They can do it right here and enjoy the same service excellence from their favourite local brands in the fresh open air on the coast, close to home,” said Devmco director, Charles Thompson.

The centre was built with a philosophy of sustainability and environmental consciousness in mind, and the open design mirrors that intention.

With welcoming modern architectural touches throughout, there is a central courtyard and children’s play area around which most of the restaurants are situated.

Given its smaller size, all of the stores are easily accessible and one could walk from one extreme end to the other in minutes.

“We have purposefully looked to include tenants in the centre who comprise some of South Africa’s most popular and loved brands such as Dis-Chem, Kauai, Mr Price Home, Woolworths, Spar, Milady’s and Mugg & Bean. We have also hand-picked a number of owner-run and managed establishments and stores considered local treasures,” said project lead, Brad Winstanley.

One such local favourite is the La Casa Nostra restaurant, a fixture of Umdloti for 26 years, that has become one of the originating tenants at Marine Walk.

“We are looking forward to offering our customers, who are like family to us, the same tried and tested menu favourites, but with a new dining experience that has something for the whole family to enjoy,” said owner Vanessa Cantatore.

A new Waxy O’Connors has opened too, ensuring a range of dining options at your fingertips.

Also to be found is a first for KwaZulu-Natal, the W.Edit store, which is a boutique offering from Woolworths where one can find clothing, homeware and beauty items.

This alongside numerous other shops and services such as Spec-Savers, Petland, Frozen For You, Billie Boys, the Moustache Barber and many others left for one to discover in person.
