Ballito cupcake frenzy all for a good cause
Almost 1 500 cupcakes were sold as part of a fundraiser for the Cupcakes of Hope NPO, which raises awareness and funds for families in need of medical assistance.
Celebrating its 10th anniversary, Cupcakes of Hope sold 1 498 cupcakes at the Ballito Lifestyle Centre outside Spar on Saturday as part of a fundraising drive to support the organisation’s cancer programmes.
The mouth-watering cupcakes were baked with love by volunteers, some who were survivors and others who had lost loved ones to cancer.
One of them was Roxy Lamprecht (14) who lost her friend to leukaemia six years ago. Since then, she and her mother, Amella, have always participated in the annual event.
“This year we only got to know about the weekend’s event two days prior, and I thought we would not be attending. But Roxy insisted that we come and here we are,” said Amella.
Local co-ordinator Tamara Manicum said cupcake drives were held in 60 malls around the country, and so far from 30 malls counted, R1.3-million was raised.
“We would like to thank the community for stepping up to generously support a cause that’s close to all our hearts. It motivates me and my team as we change more lives in the sweetest way,” she said.
Cupcakes of Hope is a non-profit company raising awareness and funds for families in need of medical assistance.
They assist more than 230 patients every month by paying for their medical and other day-to-day needs.
