Jasper Pons passed away peacefully on Saturday, October 22 at the age of 91, after a lifetime of service to all in need.

Farmer, carer of orphans, lay-preacher, environmentalist, educator of rural children on turtles, whales, snakes and pollution, whilst being a woodworker, mentor, Zulu museum curator, Ezemvelo Wildlife Honorary Officer and so much more – but above all, a Christian.

Jasper’s wife Jane passed away during the Covid-19 lockdown in 2020. Jane, married to Jasper for close to 60 years, was equally involved in spreading the gospel.

She too was well known for her work distributing bibles, setting up and running a medical clinic in Maphumulo, producing and directing a Zulu video on HIV prevention, caring for orphans and leading both a Sunday School Association and a boy scouts group.

She was a professional counsellor and a highly competent diagnostician at Stanger Hospital who was requested to stay at her post into her 80s.

Jane was a shining light for the marginalised in rural areas, while also a comfort to those in need in her own community.

The North Coast community have lost an amazing couple but their witness and the seeds they have planted in the minds of both children and adults will have made our world a better place.

Thanksgiving Service A Thanksgiving Service for the lives of both Jasper and Jane Pons will be conducted by the family at All Saints Anglican Church, Balcomb Street, Stanger at 11 am on Saturday, October 29.
