Illegal fuel seller arrested at Ndwedwe taxi rank
Transnet investigators were also called out to take samples for testing, to establish if the fuel was taken from the Transnet pipeline.
A tip-off led to the arrest of an illegal fuel seller in a joint security operation at a Ndwedwe taxi rank last week.
According to Charnel Hattingh, Fidelity Services Group’s head of communications, the suspect was observed taking 5-litre containers of fuel from the back of his truck and selling them to taxi drivers and motorists.
Further investigation revealed he did not have any legal documents or a license to sell petrol or diesel.
“The suspect was placed under arrest for contravention of the Petroleum Act 120/1977,” said Hattingh.
Transnet investigators were also called out to take samples for testing, to establish if the fuel was taken from the Transnet pipeline. Transnet has not yet released the results of its analysis.
Taking part in the operation were members from our Specialised Intervention Unit (SIU), local police, the Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation (DPCI) Durban and the Anti-gang Task Team.
