Ballito’s 1st Scouts and Cubs celebrate 2022 achievements
The Ballito scouts are part of the larger Scouts South Africa non-profit organisation, one of the biggest youth organisations in the country with just over 190 000 children involved.
It has been a busy year for the 1st Ballito Scouts and Cubs, who enjoyed a fun day at Simbithi Eco Estate’s Guinea Fowl community centre on Saturday.
From park and beach clean-ups, to flood relief and even helping out with upgrades at the Harold Johnson Nature Reserve, the scouts and cubs definitely had their hands full this year.
The well-deserved break on Saturday saw children and leaders alike enjoy team-building exercises and activities before Simbithi environmental manager Ayanda Duma gave an informative talk on protecting nature and climate change and its effect on the world.
“During a hike the children learnt about alien plants and saw some beautiful animals,” said fun day coordinator, Charlene Erasmus.
Scouts are taught leadership abilities, teamwork and much more with ages ranging from 7-17.
Scouts and cubs meet each Wednesday at Townsend Park (during school terms) from 5-6.45pm.
