Create a light-filled wonderland at home

Heed some practical advice and turn your home into a festive season delight this Christmas.

It’s the time of year when we like to add festive sparkle to everything, from our Christmas tree to our Facebook profile photo and our home’s exterior.

When lighting up your home you can go as simple or as all out Santa’s Village as you like.

Shedding some light on what to keep in mind when preparing to decorate, ACDC Express Ballito store manager, Jagdeep Soorae, said one should ensure the lights you buy are SABS approved.

“The last thing one needs during the festive season is having your Christmas lights outshined by a fire.”

Jagdeep Soorae can help help you brighten up your festive season.

He also advised that one checks whether lights are waterproof before putting these up outside one’s home to avoid unnecessary expenses.

Christmas is also not the time to expose yourself to the criminal element.

“Many people choose to dim their home lights to boost the lightshow, which could also make you vulnerable to opportunistic criminals. Consider installing one or two motion sensor lights which switch on when movement is detected,” he said.

Add that festive sparkle to your Christmas decor.

Light decorating tips:

• String lights add that touch of whimsy that gets everyone feeling nostalgic.
• Adding battery-powered lights to mason jars makes for a pretty centerpiece.
• Add Christmas lanterns to staircases or hang them from tree branches.
• Hang Christmas lights in one solid colour or create a cheerful holiday theme using combinations of red and green, blue and white or red, white and green.
• Point laser light toward the front of your house or a tree line to create amazing light displays with a reach of up to 90 metres.

When lighting up your home you can go as simple or as all out Santa’s Village as you like.
