KDM traffic officer dies at roadblock after collision sends bakkie hurtling into him

This is the second KwaDukuza municipal traffic officer to have lost his life in the line of duty in recent months.

A traffic officer was fatally injured this morning after being struck by a bakkie which had been hit by an oncoming car between Stanger and Darnall.

The KwaDukuza municipal traffic officer, still to be named, was on duty at a roadblock on the R102 when the bakkie in question made a U-turn.

At that moment an approaching car crashed into the bakkie with such force that it careered into the officer.

Critically injured, the best efforts of emergency medical personnel could not save him and he died at the scene.

The R102 remains closed.
