KwaDukuza mourns loss of traffic officer, superintendent Colin Zulu
His death follows that of superintendent Eduardo 'Eddie' Boaventura, who was shot by robbers on November 4.
KwaDukuza mourns the tragic death of another traffic officer who died at a roadblock on the R102 between Darnall and Stanger on Tuesday morning.
Assistant Superintendent Colin Zulu of the KwaDukuza traffic department was fatally injured after allegedly being struck by a bakkie in a freak accident.
Making a U-turn at the roadblock, the bakkie was reportedly hit by an oncoming car with such force that it careered into the traffic officer.
Medics at the scene attempted to treat the critically injured Zulu, but he succumbed to his injuries.
He had been a member of the KwaDukuza traffic department since 1994.
“The KwaDukuza municipality extends its sincere condolences to the Zulu family,” municipal spokesman Sipho Mkhize said.
Superintendent Zulu is the second KDM traffic officer who has died on duty in just more than a month.
His death follows that of superintendent Eduardo ‘Eddie’ Boaventura, who was shot by robbers on November 4.
Boaventura was shot five times in the chest after pulling over a car for erratic driving. Unbeknown to him the car occupants were robbers who fled from a robbery scene at the KwaDukuza Mall.
