16 days of activism in Tongaat
Tongaat, alongside KwaDukuza, has one of the highest levels of gender-based violence cases in the country.
Tongaat Saps and community stakeholders again showed a united front in fighting gender-based violence and femicide.
Over 16 days from November 25 to December 10, members of Saps, CERT, Reaction Unit, Tongaat CPF, E2 and the trauma and youth forums banded together to educate the community on the issue.
The group held placard demonstrations, while engaging with relevant communities through imbizos and the distribution of pamphlets.
Tongaat, alongside KwaDukuza, faces one of the highest levels of gender-based violence, including cases of rape and sexual assault, in the country.
It is an ongoing problem which projects such as the ’16 days of activism’ hope to cut off at the roots.
