Burst sewage pipe closes Thompson’s Bay

Beach likely to be closed for whole weekend.

A burst sewage pipe along Simbithi Drive in Ballito has caused the closure of Thompson’s Bay after the beach had been contaminated with sewage.

According to reports, the pipe burst at around midnight and it is likely the beach will be closed for the weekend.

KwaDukuza municipality lifeguard superintendent, Bongani Xulu, said they had made the call to close the beach as a safety precaution for both today (Saturday) and Sunday, and it will be reopened once deemed safe.

Xulu said no other KwaDukuza beaches had been impacted and remain open.

Siza Water was contacted for comment and a response will be published once it becomes available.
