Sewage contamination closes second KwaDukuza beach
Seven beaches remain safe for bathing.
A second KwaDukuza beach – Willard Beach – was closed today (Sunday) as a safety precaution following Saturday’s sewage spill along Simbithi Drive which contaminated Thompson’s Bay.
KwaDukuza municipality said Siza Water informed them of possible contamination of Willard Beach as well, which necessitated temporary closure pending the outcome of water tests.
Thompson’s Bay’s Blue Flag beach status was removed on Saturday, but will be reinstated once the municipality’s environmental team declares the beach free of contamination.
It is understood that repairs to the burst sewerage pipe in Simbithi Drive have been completed.
