Christmas party brings joy to Sinikithemba Foundation

Loud singing and cheerful smiles filled the Groutville community hall at the Sinikithemba Foundation Christmas party recently.

Founded in 2011, Sinikithemba Foundation has since committed to educating the Groutsville community about HIV/Aids.

However, the foundation’s mission is not only to bring awareness, but to also take care of the children in the community.

The launch of this NGO was inspired by the closure of a similar programme, Sinosizo Homebased Care, which was converted into a training programme.

Concerned the community would lose an important service, Buyile Mpunzana, Thembelihle Zwane and other women who have since left the organisation, came together and established Sinikithemba Foundation.

With their main focus being children, the organisation works hand-in-hand with child and youth careworker, Sunshine Ngwane, and social worker Sindisiwe Zulu to provide Groutville’s children with services such as homework tutoring, education on family planning, HIV/Aids awareness, and they regularly host games during school holidays to keep children off the streets.

The organisation received funds from the Social Development Department in 2014, but today survive on donations from local businesses and NGOs such as The North Coast Courier Orphan Fund, Umhlanga Sands Resort and Sisonke Bakery which sponsored their Christmas party.

All thanks to the sponsors, the children enjoyed a lovely celebration. Umhlanga Sands Resort provided hotdogs, cupcakes, party packs, and two cartoon characters for entertainment.

Sisonke provided cake for the celebration.
