Two dead, two injured in head-on collision near Zinkwazi
As at 9.15am, there was one lane open in both directions, with the possibility that Saps forensic teams would later close both lanes travelling north.
A head-on collision on the N2 near Zinkwazi this morning claimed the lives of two people who were trapped in their car as it caught alight.
Just after 7am, a BMW travelling in the southbound lane lost control, veering across the centre median before colliding with a Kombi travelling north.
The BMW caught alight with the driver and passenger trapped inside, who both succumbed to their injuries.
At this point, it is not clear whether they passed away during the accident or in the ensuing fire. That will be determined by forensic teams.

Details on the age and gender of the people in the BMW are also still to be determined.
“A husband and wife, both in their sixties, were travelling in the other car involved – a Kombi – to visit their children and grandchildren in the Mandeni area,” said IPSS Medical Rescue spokesperson, Samantha Meyrick.
The wife in the passenger seat escaped with minor injuries, but the husband was entrapped, said Meyrick.
“The fire department was able to extricate the man from the driver’s seat and he was taken to hospital with serious injuries,” she said.
