Loadshedding continues on stages 4 and 5
The power grid remains vulnerable despite the expected return of generating units this week.
As Eskom continues rotating loadshedding stages daily, the state-owned utility provider said efforts are being made to ease pressure on the power system with the expected return of 14 generating units this week.
In the interim, loadshedding will rotate between stages 4 and 5, with stage 4 running from 5am to 4pm, then upgraded to stage 5 between 4pm and 5am.
Loadshedding had been decreased from stage 6 on Monday.
Eskom said changes will only be possible if the entirety if the generating units return to service as planned, meaning a degree of uncertainty remains.
“We procured an additional 50 million litres of diesel on January 6. This will be used sparingly to manage pumped storage dam levels and to limit the level of loadshedding during the day. Together, these emergency generators contribute 5 700MW of capacity.”
Meanwhile, generating units had been returned to service at Kendal, Majuba and Tutuka power station on Monday.
