Tongaat hikers take on Kili for charity
Instead of asking for funding to help them complete their summit of Mount Kilimanjaro, three Tongaat hikers have asked that people instead support three charities they have nominated.
Three Tongaat friends are readying themselves for a journey of a lifetime, summiting Mount Kilimanjaro next month to raise funds for charity.
Anesh Rampurtab, Rajendran Pillay and Spinks Subramoney Isipingo will tackle the climb from February 3 to 13.
To ensure they reach the top of Africa unscathed, the group have been been doing hike, swim and yoga training for the past year.
“We even entered a few road races with our hiking backpacks on to make sure we are at peak fitness,” said Rampurtab.
“We are not looking for funds for ourselves or the trip, but rather ask people to donate to three causes which we think are worthy,” he said.
The organisations in question are the Verulam Day & Frail Care Centre, Krsna Goshala Cow Sanctuary and the Buffelsdale Secondary School.
No centralised fundraising page has been set up, but rather the hikers have asked that people donate directly to whichever cause they would like to support.
