Motorbike accident claims community advocate Riaan Verster
Verster was integral in the creation of the KwaDukuza Residents Forum (KDRF), of which he was the secretary.
The victim of a fatal motorbike accident this afternoon has been identified as Ballito resident Riaan Verster.
Verster was riding on the Esenembe Road, when it is believed he lost control of his bike, later succumbing to his injuries.
He was known as an active and dogged campaigner on behalf of the community and was integral in the creation of the KwaDukuza Residents Forum (KDRF), of which he was the secretary.

“Riaan was a towering giant of our community. His loss will be felt for a very long time to come.
“In the coming days and weeks, we will say more about Riaan and his selfless service to our community,” said KDRF chairman, Warwick Chapman.
Since news of his passing has spread, dozens of tributes have poured in for Verster, who was regularly described as a stalwart and asset to the community.
He leaves behind his wife Natelie and two children.
“We ask that the community give the family space during this extremely difficult time,” said Chapman.
Verster was a qualified attorney, employed by Aspen Pharmacare as the Group Executive: Governance & Communications.
- This story has been updated to reflect the fact that the accident happened on the Esenembe Road, not the R614.
