Stanger romance author Jolene hits the mark

What do you do if you are tired of searching for the perfect book to read, but never find it?

Well, if you are KwaDukuza resident Jolene Loganadhan, you write it yourself!

Loganadhan (32) has long been an avid reader of romantic fiction, citing EL James (the author of 50 Shades of Grey), among others, as a favourite.

But when searching for that next page-turner three years ago, she came up empty-handed.

“It had been a while since I read a really good one, and was becoming so frustrated with yet another disappointing book that I decided to put pen to paper myself and see what I could come up with,” said Loganadhan, who manages a BP garage in KwaDukuza.

“At first it was just for me. But after I had finished three or four chapters while writing on my Kindle, I decided to try and do it properly.”

A few months later, Loganadhan (pen name Jolene Logan) had completed her first full-length novel called My Dearest Deception.

Part classic love triangle, part millenial You’ve Got Mail, the book chronicles a long-distance love story of mistaken identity between three teenagers, which stretches into their adulthood.

Protagonist Jodi had long harboured a crush on childhood friend Ryan, but before he left to become a lawyer in New York, a wedge was driven between them by the third part of the triumvirate, Kimberly.

Desperate to stay in touch, Jodi impersonates Kimberly and begins an online friendship-come-romance.

But what will happen when Ryan returns home to discover the entire relationship had been fabricated?

To find out the full story of romance across oceans, but with a distinctly South African flair, you will need to pick up a copy for yourself.

“I self-published the book through Krest Publishers, but it has recently been stocked by local Exclusive Books and Bargain Books outlets,” she said.

You can also find copies online, or on your Kindle. The recommended retail price is R250.

“The response I have had so far has been incredible, and to hear people give feedback on characters I created is a lovely feeling. The writing process was not always easy, but it was worth it for the sense of accomplishment I felt when typing that last word,” she said.

Since being bitten by the writing bug, Loganadhan has already begun another book, intended to be the first in the Royal Heart of Darkness series.
