Community celebrates good matric results [Watch]
Several speakers were invited to motivate the matriculants, one of them being Sizani Combined School principal Ntombenhle July.
Jubilation filled the Shaka’s Head community hall last Thursday as residents celebrated the township’s high matric pass rate.
Ward 4 committee member, Sthembile Makhanya, said for years the township had not obtained good matric results.
“This year, 32 matriculants passed with good marks. We felt this turnaround warranted a celebration,” said Makhanya.
Several speakers were invited to motivate the matriculants, one of them being Sizani Combined School principal Ntombenhle July.
She warned the matriculants not to get carried away by the new freedoms afforded them at tertiary level.
“You are going to be treated as an adult and you will have freedom you never experienced at home or school. There, no one will question you if you do not attend class or do not submit your assignments. No one cares. If you do your work, you will pass, but if you don’t, no one will ask you anything. You must understand the importance of being there and what you want to achieve in life,” said July.
She advised parents to continue providing their children with emotional support. while encouraging the students to make the most of this next phase of their lives.
“Your qualification is your partner for life, it will never cheat, abuse or divorce you. Work hard and obtain your degree or any other qualification of your choice and you will never go wrong.”
