Woman saved from near-drowning at Salmon Bay
Two passersbys realised the woman was in trouble and pulled her from the ocean.
A woman had to be rescued after getting into difficulty while swimming at Salmon Bay this afternoon.
The woman, estimated to be in her late-20s, was swimming at the unprotected beach at around 5pm.
Two men who were walking by saw what was happening and were luckily able to pull her from the water just in time, said Medi Response KZN’s Janus van Schalkwyk.
“By the time they got to her she was unresponsive and they began performing CPR to try and resuscitate her. After about a minute, she threw up and started breathing,” he said.
Paramedics arrived soon after to find the woman with a pulse and breathing, but still largely unresponsive, he said.
They were able to later stabilise her and she was taken to a nearby hospital.
