KwaDukuza sector commanders to improve police response times

Rapid population growth in KwaDukuza is placing added pressure on already stretched police resources and community co-operation is being encouraged to fight crime.

This was emphasised at the KwaDukuza Community Policing Forum’s annual general meeting held in the KwaDukuza town hall last week.

Colonel Mxolisi Linna of KwaDukuza Saps introduced four new sector commanders to the community.

They were appointed last Monday to improve the station’s turnaround time in responding to calls, an issue previously raised by residents.

Each will receive a state cell phone and their numbers made available to the public.

“This will help us improve our reaction times and we will have officers allocated for each of these sectors,” said Linna.

Sector one falls under sergeant Sandile Zavala, and his team will be looking after Gledhow, Nkukhwini, Chris Hani, Melville, Dube Village and Thembeni.

Sergeant Mlungisi Makhathini’s sector includes Malende, Hangoes, Groutville, Ntshawini, Lloyd, Townview, Rocky Park, Shombela and Glenville.

Sector three falls under captain Manivasagen Perumal and includes KwaDukuza CBD, Shakaville, Monkey Town, Stanger Manor, Kearsney, Zinkwazi, Blythedale and Nonoti.

Warrant officer Eric Masondo is the commander for sector four, which includes all the farms within the precinct, Sakhamkhanya, Madundube and Nonoti School.

Linna added they have one van and two officers tasked to patrol the CBD daily.

However, he said these initiatives taken by the station’s management will not work if there is no cooperation from the community. Structures such as the CPF play a critical role in fighting crime.
